    MENC Welcomes Lynn Brinckmeyer as President
    The National Association for Music Education welcomed Lynn Brinckmeyer as its 60th elected president on July 1, 2006. Dr. Brinckmeyer is Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Choral Music Education at Texas State University. Lynn Brinckmeyer is a strong supporter of MusicFriends saying, “Music education nurtures the human component of our students’ lives. MusicFriends is a vital tool to advocate for music education. It takes the entire community to support and protect quality music programs in our schools.”

    100 Outstanding Student Musicians Honored
    One hundred outstanding high school students have been named as 2006 All-USA High School Musicians. Music teachers around the country nominated students displaying exceptional musical achievement, academic prowess and community involvement for this honor. Members of the 257th Army Band and the U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own” selected the one hundred finalists from these nominations.

    Caitlin Merie Hurrey Memorial Scholarship Recipients Announced
    Three recipients were named in the third annual Caitlin Merie Hurrey Memorial Scholarship awards: Keely Murphy, a alumna of Huntington Elementary, Nia Rhein, who plans to study Vocal Performance at Westminster Choir College of Rider University, and Jenni Ensign, a student at Arizona State University.
