Music Quote of the Month
“During the Gulf War, the few opportunities I had for relaxation I always listened to music, and it brought to me great peace of mind. I have shared my love of music with people throughout this world, while listening to the drums and special instruments of the Far East, Middle East, Africa, the Caribbean, and the Far North — and all of this started with the music appreciation course that I was taught in a third-grade elementary class in Princeton, New Jersey. What a tragedy it would be if we lived in a world where music was not taught to children.”
— H. Norman Schwarzkopf, General, U.S. Army, retired

    For Music Students
Do you know a high school student who excels not only academically, but musically as well? If so, now is the time to apply to become a 2006 All-USA High School Musician. Students who demonstrate exceptional music skills and academic achievement, as well as exemplary leadership in their school and community, are eligible.

For the first time, this program will now recognize students in any of their school's musical ensembles, whether band, choir, or orchestra. In addition to being selected as one of the top 100 musicians and student leaders in the country, a select few will also receive small scholarships. The U.S. Department of Education has created a 26-page, user-friendly guide to the No Child Left Behind Act for state education leaders. A Road Map to State Implementation explains the basic principles and components of the law, ranging from assessment requirements to the goal of proficiency for all students by 2014. This is a helpful tool for advocates who need to fully grasp the bill.
